The ESM™ units were installed in July 2003 to optimize the compressors in the refrigeration racks of two locations. Smartcool’s standard monitoring and verification process was initiated to determine the performance of the unit. Data was collected as the ESM™ units alternated between OFF and ON modes. The energy savings shown below were achieved with no discernable impact on temperature.
Project Description
Tesco Express stores are smaller shops stocking mainly food and other convenience items. In 2003, Smartcool completed a trial installation on two Tesco Express locations in London to demonstrate the savings that could be achieved by the ESM™ on scroll compressors. Previously the ESM™ had been installed on many reciprocating compressors in Tesco’s stores with extremely positive results. These evaluation results are an average of the data collected from the test sites. Altogether, the ESM™ was installed on seven Copeland scroll compressors responsible for the refrigeration in the two test sites. The savings achieved in these installations led to a roll-out of the ESM™ to Tesco Express stores within the UK.
